So let me discuss 3 painful CPA marketing mistakes you’re probably making right now and don’t even know it.

Mistake #1 is dealing with “small” CPA networks.

Listen, I’m all for helping small businesses make money. The corner store, for example, is a good substitute to buy a few knick-knacks from when I don’t feel like traveling a distance to my local Kroger or Wal-Mart.

But when you’re dealing with start-up CPA companies, few of them never make it past their third year — for a REASON. And the reason why is often this…

  • Bad infrastructure
  • Poor management
  • Little regard for customer service.

If you want to give smaller CPA companies a try, be my guest, but I’d rather leave it to other people to test out before I risk my money on an “unknown” network.

Stick with the “big guns” in the industry, and you will rarely have any of those issues.

Mistake #2 is taking very little, if ANY action to move forward with your campaigns.

You would think this mistake is common sense, but I’ve heard stories from people who complain about CPA not working…when they never gave it a chance to work in the first place.

Reading a course about making $25k in one month from CPA offers isn’t going to magically happen for you unless you take what you read and apply it to action.

The problem is that some people prefer to live in the fantasy of success than having REAL success. At least until their fantasy goes “bust” and the bills are due before the end of week. That’s when they complain. So don’t complain about it, put the stuff into action and you’ll get REAL results.

Mistake #3 is to resist the urge to work in a panic.

Diving into the deep CPA waters can be a little overwhelming, especially if you’re just learning how to swim. There are many courses teaching you how to promote, which offers to promote, and which way to promote that it can all be al little wacky sometimes.

Truth is, each offer requires a different approach that will work for one CPA offer (email/zip submit) but won’t work for another (credit card submit). Whichever offer you pick must be compatible with the way you promote it.

Always keep that in mind.

Earning money using CPA methods is like any other online business. It’s not a “get-rich-quick-scheme” and DOES need to be treated with respect and a solid game plan to work for you.

Don’t get me wrong, making money with CPA is exciting and can be an adrenaline rush when you make your first $100 day, but what it will take to get there is not an easy task.

Simple—Yes. Easy? Not by a long shot.

The FIRST of the two biggest mistakes you can make in CPA marketing is to leave your campaigns stripped and naked.

What I mean is this: NEVER leave your traffic source wide open for ANY CPA company to get an idea of what you’re up to or you’re just asking to be exploited because…leaving your campaigns exposed is like inviting Freddy Krueger over for a dinner and lively conversation.

It doesn’t…make…sense.

Here’s the reason why: CPA affiliates (the businesses that supplies the offers and pays you for the conversions through the CPA network), both large and small, are notorious for stopping campaigns or “banning” a sub-affiliate (which is you) from promoting your converting offer.

Why? Because they get bigger commissions promoting their own stuff and keeping the profits from themselves “in-house” using the traffic method you used in the first place.

They do this by getting the information from YOUR affiliate manager (AM) because your AM knows where you get the traffic from IF you don’t make the extra effort to cloak your affiliate links.

The best way to cloak your affiliate link is through basic “re-directs”.

AM’s are good for many things like sharing top converting offers once you butter them up a bit, but never allow yourself to be “buttered up” and share information on how you generate your traffic because they can and will use that against you.

The SECOND of the two biggest mistakes you can make in CPA marketing is to throw away working campaigns in search of “homeruns”.

In the world of online CPA marketing, campaigns come and go. In search of homeruns, you may get what you want — but victories in business seldom last forever because you’re only as profitable as your last campaign.

The key to success in CPA is a long-term game plan consisting of 10-20 different campaigns that ALL get results promoting different offers in different niches.

Quickly jot down those two mistakes down on paper and tape it to your desk so you’re left with a reminder before you start your next campaign.

CPA Marketing And Why It Makes You Money

We mentioned in a recent post that for a few years now, there’s been a silent debate on which business model makes you money fastest:

CPA or Affiliate Marketing.

Comments from beginning marketers prompted me to say more.

A few select profitable affiliate marketing online business owners will tell you it will and will always be affiliate marketing. But that’s taking a very “closed-minded view” of what’s possible with CPA marketing.

I am certainly not criticizing or passing judgment on affiliate marketing (I do it!), but let me share with you my theories and reasoning behind why CPA marketing maybe best for YOU.

I’m going to assume that you’re not tech savvy. That you’re tired of working a 9 to 5 job and you’re looking for an easy way to supplement your current income.

I also have to assume that maybe you aren’t new around the block and maybe you’ve tried affiliate marketing for a several long months using methods like auto-blogging, list building, or other popular affiliate marketing related strategies to boost your income.

Perhaps you’re coming up a little short and you need a shot of “income adrenaline” to see light at the end of the tunnel and make it out with a small fortune to show for it.

Whatever your unique situation may be, it’s proven by several struggling online marketers that it’s easier (and faster) to get financial success promoting CPA offers.

There are those who for years couldn’t make a dime selling affiliate products, make their first $20 or $30 day in profit when they jumped shipped to CPA marketing their first day trying.

I don’t want to imply that making money with CPA is a “Get-Rich-Quick” because those results are certainly out of the ordinary, but it’s as much a real business as affiliate marketing, yet easier to get into profit and stay motivated to “improve and grow” beyond initial success.

The trick with selling information products is it takes more “effort” to get working. In my experience, I’ve had to learn how write copy, write sales letters, write emails that “sell”, drive traffic, and create my own websites to even begin to make a low 4-figure income.

In other words, one giant “pain”.

On the flip side, with CPA all I needed was traffic and a basic website I threw together using Kompozer (it’s free) and Dreamweaver. If you prefer, you can find a ready-made website for cheap on Elance to set-up your CPA business.

Some people make money instantly with the right coaching and training, for others like me who took the “longer route”, I made money within my first 4 weeks — even with that time frame it’s not so bad considering how long it took for me to make money in affiliate marketing.

In conclusion, CPA marketing is a “simpler” concept and easier for the average Joe (or Jane) off the street to make a full-time income in 6-12 months. Ultimately, the decision to do affiliate marketing or CPA marketing is a choice left up to you.

Whichever one you choose, you should STICK with it until you succeed.

CPA vs. Affiliate Marketing: Which One?

CPA versus Affiliate Marketing. It’s a classic debate. And for a lot of people who failed to get affiliate marketing to work for them, but succeeded in CPA, it’s obvious who the clear winner is.

The same could be said for a lot of the top internet marketers today like Frank Kern, Perry Marshall, and others who made their living from affiliate marketing. So it all boils down to this:

Who’s right, and who’s wrong? The answer to this question is simple…

No one.

CPA marketing has been around for many years, but it wasn’t until 3-4 years ago when it really started to catch fire with both successful and struggling internet marketers because of CPA pioneers like Amish Shah who introduced this profitable business to the online community.

I know a few CPA enthusiasts who believe running a CPA business is easier than affiliate marketing by a long shot because it’s simpler for people to take action that doesn’t require their credit card info for YOU to make money.

Even if it is a few dollars per day profit, it’s enough to inspire anyone to take that bit of success and grow on it — where’s affiliate marketing requires MORE patience and resilience to get results.

CPA marketing is all fine and dandy and it’s the rave in the IM community at this time, but let’s talk a little about what makes affiliate marketing a strong “contender” in this contest to see which business model is the best:

It’s said that “the bigger the risk you take in business, the bigger the reward”. Although not always the case, I’ve discovered from personal experience it’s fairly accurate. The more you risk, the more money and higher the profit margins you get in return.

Let’s say you have an affiliate product paying out $30 per sale in commissions (affiliate marketing). If you had a common CPA campaign set-up, it would take 30 people to take a specific action ($1.00 per zip/email submit) to get what only took ONE person to do with the $30 sale.

Also, with affiliate marketing you’re not at the mercy of the CPA merchant. Simply that means you rarely need to call anyone to get anybody’s approval to get set-up and making money.

As you can see there are both “positives and negatives” with both CPA and Affiliate Marketing. Starting out, I might recommend CPA because the motivation to succeed grows even with small successes.
